It was around 10 a.m., which might be considered early by some people's standards, on a typical sunny and warm California morning. Tucked in the back house, under the shade of well landscaped and manicured trees on a lot in Echo Park, Andy Creighton, and band-mates Aaron Ballard (bass), Sam Fowles (drums), and Evan Way (guitar), were enjoying bagels and OJ. Both Sam and Aaron would have to leave for work soon, but no one seemed rushed.

The World Record is a funny being; you may recognize the members from L.A. darlings The Parson Redheads, but with a bit of instrument-musical-chairs. Their sound is sweetly reminiscent of some of the greats of the 70's and 80's, but always with a bit of a modern twist. And with Creighton's knack for cunning, personal, often sarcastic, and consistently provocative lyricism, you're sure to find yourself not just bobbing your head, but also singing along. These hooks get stuck in your brain for days.

The first thing you can tell with these guys is that they're all having a great time with what they're doing. And it translates. They're loose and all smiles and it's infectious. Somehow, the rest of the band convinced Andy he should wear that hat (which he probably regrets). Stripped down to just acoustic guitars, bass, and a single floor tom and snare, they breezed through an extremely quick set of four songs, including a new one (did someone say "hit single?"), called "Gonna Leave You For," before Aaron had to run off to work (hopefully he wasn't too too late). And just like that, they were back inside eating bagels and drinking OJ, with most of a beautiful Sunday still ahead.
