Apparently, this is a traditional song (also known as "Likes Likker Better Than Me") that came from the mountains of North Carolina. The New Lost City Ramblers recorded it and 17 others in 1958 on an album titled with the group's name. In the liner notes they say, "The songs on this album were recorded by commercial companies and the Library of Congress in the south- eastern mountains between 1925 and 1935, and show the first attempts of the hill musicians to "make a hit" with old traditional songs that had been in the mountains since pioneer days."
The song has also been recorded by the Carolina Chocolate Drops (an outstanding group -- go hear them if you ever get the chance), the Long Hill Ramblers and the Forge Mountain Diggers.
