The Dead Parrots Society - Jenny Sleeping 1997 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 27, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
A bitter sweet song from our 2nd LP "Saint Cecilia", 1997 but written in 1989. Our music continues to be unknown outside of Record Collectors' circles, and after a slow start, "Saint Cecilia", is finally catching up "Music of a Bygone Age". If one cannot achieve popular or commercial success, it's at least something to see both albums still exchanging hands for up to $300 each. Crazy! Strange thing the music business.

Our decision to stay with vinyl, and to feature John Strudwick's beautiful paintings on both sleeves, has enabled our voices to be heard for two decades. "The Dead Parrots Society" is not a name often typed into You Tube search, but to have any sort of 'presence' is nice. Hence these video uploads. I was unable to use photos of other members of our band in any of the videos. So, it's just me. Sorry about that.

We are not connected to the American comedy group - also called The Dead Parrots Society - who were formed in 1998. We are just wandering musicians from Walthamstow, London. In 1991, I asked a cleaning lady if she had seen a film called "The Dead Poets Society". She thought I had said "The Dead Parrots Society" ... and our name was born

Lyrics: Jenny Sleeping : Written:1988 Recorded: 1997

The Sun shines down on Jenny softly sleeping
I sit and watch her as the dawn comes creeping
What goes on inside her head
Lying there upon her bed
As watch I'm keeping

Her eyes will open soon, a new day dawning
A cigarette to welcome in the morning
She'll run her fingers through her hair
And all I'll do is sit and stare
At Jenny yawning

If only she could trust in those who love her
If only she could see the stars above her
Then she might be free from pain
Start her life and live again
And discover
And discover

The Sun shines down on Jenny softly sleeping
I sit and watch her as the dawn comes creeping
What goes on inside her head
Lying there upon her bed
As watch I'm keeping
As watch I'm keeping
