Roy Head - One more time - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 10, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
The self-written "One more time" was the first record from Roy Head and The Traits in 1960. It was a regional hit in East Texas and Southern Louisiana. The version here is a re-recording, date unknown, but sometime in the late '60's to mid '70's timeframe. Roy went on to re-record the song several times.

This, and other tracks, come from the album "White Texas Soul Shouter" which was issued in 1999 on Edsel as one of their Crazy Cajun series of albums which pulled together recordings produced by Huey P Meaux in Houston in the late '60's and '70's. Meaux used the Crazy Cajun name for one of a series of labels which he operated in the timeframe.

Roy Head had his one and only hit for Huey Meaux in 1965 with "Treat Her Right" which is rightly regarded as a classic of blue-eyed soul. For a variety of reasons Roy didn't manage to follow this record up successfully. He drifted between labels until he came under control of Meaux again in, I think, the mid seventies. Two albums were issued of his music, "Boogie Down" and "Rock'n'Roll My Soul". Edsel issued two albums in 1999 covering music from those albums, the aforementioned "White Texas Soul Shouter" and "Country Crooner". I assume Edsel's intention was to cover the more soul and R&B oriented in the former and the C&W ones in the latter. The recordings themselves were apparently spread over a wide period from the late '60's through to the mid '70's. Even for the time many of these recordings are throwbacks to the music emanating from the US R&B field plus the Brit R&B boom in the mid '60's. Many of the tracks, particularly those on ".. Soul Shouter" will have been staples from Head's stage act.

The musicians present on most of these tracks were:

Dahrull Norris - Drums
Ira Wilkes - Bass
Peter Schless - Keyboards, Synthesiser
Lee O'Neil - Keyboards, Synthesiser, Arrangements
Mike Pietzsch - Guitar
Uncle Mickey Moody - Guitar
Lynn Groom - Guitar
The Merlene Singers - Background vocals
