Famous Irish Air - Planxty "Fanny Power" by Turlough O Carolan - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 27, 2009
DESCRIPTION:
Turlough O Carolan (died 1738) was a blind harpist who travelled around Ireland as an itinerant musician. He received patronage from wealthy landowners in exchange for musical compositions in their honour. This tune "Fanny Power" was composed in honour of Miss Frances Power from County Galway on the occasion of her wedding. Her parents had been very generous to Carolan and he repaid their kindness with this beautiful piece of music. Ideally this is an exquisite piece played on the harp.
