"Sahara" is another oriental delicacy recorded by Bimbo der Tricktrommler (Bimbo, the magic drummer) and his orchestra in 1941. The period 1939/41 saw quite a lot of these exotic themed dance tunes such as "Golfstrom" "Amazonas", "Marokko", "Wenn ich ein Schlangenbeschwörer wär" , "Kairo" etc...

Bimbo der Tricktrommler or Ernst Weiland performed at Berlin's famed Scala variety theatre and made a number of recordings for Odeon....
In do not have much information on him, except that he was drafted in 1943 and died on the Eastern Front - most likely in 1944....

Another one of his records - "Komm und tanz" from the movie "Menschen vom Varieté" can be found in my channel :

The video features images of nomads in the desert as well as the development of the "Transsaharien" railroad which was supposed to link French Northern Africa to French Western Africa thus going through the Sahara. Plans were made in the late 19th century - construction went on until 1949 before the project was shelved. The Transsaharien was never completed. More information can be found here :
