DESCRIPTION: Sumitra Das Goswani from Jaitaran, in the Pali district of Rajasthan, she sings, dances and plays a variety of instruments.
Sumitra learnt to sing at the tender age of eight when her mother passed away. Her father (playing here) gave her a home made harmonium and taught her vocal techniques, her natural ability soon shone through and she began singing in her early teens at Jagrans - singing festivals. She built up a reputation for having an incredibly sweet, powerful voice and has been an integral part of JVF's festivals since 2006. She also plays the chautara - a four stringed wooden instrument, tabla and harmonium.
