To get Steve Smyth into our classroom, we had to take some hurdles. First of all we arrived at our location (a pavillion in a park) and saw it was occupied by a group of people dancing salsa, followed by a group of teenagers with guitars who allured a security man. He examined our equipment quite skeptical and insinuated that we were not welcome here. And even if that wouldn´t have been enough it started raining cats and dogs, Steve's acoustic guitar was missing and our time until his soundcheck went fast until we could get started.
But for us it was more a challenge than a barrier. We went quickly to Maria's place to get her acoustic guitar and set up our classroom in the backstage room of Atomic Café. Steve on his own took care about the perfect filmset lighting using an umbrella, some tape and a hanger. And so we finally could enjoy his wonderful music and his absolutely breathtaking voice and afterwards we couldn´t have imagined a better fitting location for him.

Um Steve Smyth zu uns ins Klassenzimmer zu bekommen mussten wir die ein oder andere Hürde nehmen. Zuerst belagerte eine Salsa-Tanzgruppe unsere Location, gefolgt von einer Gruppe Jugendlicher mit Gitarren, die sofort einen Securityman mit anzog. Dieser begutachtete ganz skeptisch unsere Kameras und gab uns indirekt zu verstehen, dass wir hier nicht erwünscht sind. Und als wenn das alles nicht genug gewesen wäre gabs da dann noch einen Wolkenbruch, eine fehlende Akkustikgitarre und eine sich verspätende Band.
Für uns war das alles aber kein Hindernis sondern eine Herausforderung. So musste eben schnell Marias Gitarre geholt werden und der Backstageraum im Atomic Café wurde spontan zum Klassenzimmer umfunktioniert. Für die optimale Filmset-Beleuchtung sorgte Steve selbst, herhalten mussten dafür ein Regenschirm, ein Kleiderbügel und ein paar Streifen Gaffa. Und so kamen wir dann doch noch in den Genuss von Steves wunderbarer Musik uns seiner wahnsinnigen Stimme, die einen regelrecht umhaut. Und im Nachhinein hätten wir uns keine bessere Location für diese Session vorstellen können.
