Magic Dirt live at the Chaos / Schlock Party. - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 17, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Chaos was an indie record store and Schlock was an utterly eclectic video rental shop. They existed side by side in a small, dimly lit arcade in central Geelong for a couple of glorious years during the economic pits of the "recession we had to have".
On sundays the arcade was firmly locked at both ends, to all intents and purposes deserted. A small cafe operated at the Ryrie St end which had two sets of doors, one into the arcade and one onto the street, bypassing the steel shutters. A clandestine arrangement with Arthur, the genial cafe proprietor, saw 100 or so teenagers enter the tiny premises that afternoon armed with a laminated pass previously obtained when shopping at the aforementioned stores.
4 bands played and THE worst stand-up comic in history.
Nobody paid to get in and nobody got paid to play.

These are the original Dirtsters in full flight, pure as the driven snow.
The 10 minute setup and wind down after the set offer those who were then when this was now a chance to play 'Spot Mum or Dad when they were cool people' with their kids
Life WAS better back then.

RIP Dean & Taz

Technical note: This was recorded via a single microphone gaffered to a beam onto a Hi-Fi stereo VHS recorder. Only the left channel works on this transcription but random transient bursts of noise suggest a second channel was recorded but failed to track on the replay machine when it was digitised.
All rights an' stuff belong to whoever cares about that kinda' stuff but I hope they respect the cultural value of the recording.

All you need is love.
