Stanley looked at the clock on the wall
It read half past nine -
Twenty-six hours with no sleep and no sunshine
Stuck in his closet cutting footage for a slasher flick
The glow from the machines overworked made his eyes itch
Working for the studio, just another nameless AVID man
Living for deadlines, another night, another job in the can
This force that burns to create will consume all men
The stop-start-stop pace brings in the fits again
It comes from shaping something to someone elses vision
It comes from living inside a self appointed prison
Turn out the lights, place your hands on the terminals
Close your eyes and begin to usher in the eternal

White out, pull back the fade
A nameless film, a nameless day
The lights go out, machines can break
There's still no time, but work to do
Stanley shakes, but he pulls through
Brings out a blade and cuts away
He's cutting himself into the film and out of his life
And he reaches inside for the place where he holds in the light
Then he raises the blade one more time to his eyes
And he cuts through the frame, now the lens, the final edit made blind
And he cuts and he cuts and he cuts
Until there's nothing more
And he cuts and he cuts and he cuts
Left on the cutting room floor
And these eyes will never see the light again
And these eyes will never see the light flicker again
