We're moving through stages, we're molting again

This is hardly a lesson
Just drop out the floor
And peel off emotion
Like skin from the core

I've been seeking the presence to give up the loss
Stand back from the wreckage and measure the cost
If heart is just skin deep, then where is the soul?
Going through the motions has taken its toll
We both know possession was never at stake
Now molting's the difference, too fragile to break
The pain is beneath me, I want to believe
In something less hurtful than the cycle of need
