’The Floating World' was the name given to the red light districts in 17th-19th Century Japan where Kabuki actors, courtesans and Sumo wrestlers mixed with artists, poets and musicians.  Sarah discovered her own Floating World when she met composer Simon Wallace and his songwriting partner Fran Landesman.  Fran moved to London in 1964 from New York via St Louis where her friends and peers included Jack Kerouac, Lenny Bruce, Miles Davis, Woody Allen and Barbra Streisand.  Fran and Jay Landesman’s Islington home became a magnet for the great and the good of the Floating World.  The guest list at 8 Duncan Terrace N1 included Peter Cook, Ken Kesey, Jimi Hendrix, Stan Getz, Mama Cass, Yoko Ono, Douglas Adams, R.D.Laing, Christine Keeler, Larry Adler, Annie Ross, Mark Murphy, Jim Haynes, Carolyn Cassady, John Cooper Clarke, Paul Jones, Jackie and Roy, John Steinbeck jr, Steve Ross and Timothy Leary.  She wrote songs with composers Tommy Wolf, Bob Dorough, Alec Wilder, Dudley Moore, Georgie Fame, Richard Rodney Bennet, John Simon and Roy Kral, including jazz standards ‘Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most, ‘Ballad Of The Sad Young Men’ and ‘Small Day Tomorrow’. Arlene Corwin introduced both 'Spring' and 'Sad Young Men' as the original lead in The Nervous Set. Fran’s songs have been recorded by Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Ian Shaw, Bette Midler, Carmen McRae, Bette Davis, Rickie Lee Jones, Roberta Flack, Keith Jarrett, Shirley Bassey, Chet Baker, Larry Hagman, Chaka Khan, Betty Carter, Cannonball Adderley, June Christy, Ramsey Lewis, Patti Austin, Jamie Cullum.
