Band bio :
Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Hard rocking trio, Rock Goddess began in 1977 by sisters Jody Turner and Julie Turner while still in school, along with Tracey Lamb the band began to play gigs in the local South London area, mainly with the help of the band’s manager who also was the father of the Turner sisters. With Jody on vocals and guitar, Julie on drums, and Tracey on bass, the band saw several second guitarists come and go before deciding to remain a trio and setting out to conquer London’s ever growing hard rock scene. Playing local gigs did prove to be a challenge with the age of the girls, however they were quickly noticed for their sheer talent and were signed to major record label A&M by 1982. The result, 1983’s self-titled album, produced by famed British record producer Vic Maile, who worked with bands from Motorhead, Fleetwod Mac, and Led Zeppelin, to name a few. With their popularity only growing larger the band gained even more international acclaim for a surge in hard rock from that emerged from the U.K in the early 1980’s that many dubbed the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, alongside bands like Motorhead and Girlschool to name a few, Rock Goddess found themselves quickly at the fore front of this movement and being one of the few all female bands along with Girlschool, also Vic Maile produced, both bands would spend much of their career’s trying not to over shadow the other. Rock Goddess however were far more different in music style then Girlschool, who’s hard rock mixed in elements of punk rock, Rock Goddess was much more progressive hard rock and utilized Keyboards. By 1983 bassist Tracey Lamb would leave the band and join the all female band She and eventually the Girlschool line-up in 1987. Lamb’s replacement would be bassist and keyboardist Dee O’Malley who was featured on the band’s second release, Hell Hath No Fury in 1983. Rock Goddess would tour extensively throughout Europe and the U.S. during this time and supporting such heavy weight bands like Def Leppard and Iron Maiden only grew their fan base to dizzying heights, however with the departure of O’Malley the band found themselves at a crossroads and line-up changes to ensure and brought in new bass player Julia Longman along with keyboardist Becky Axten. It would not be until 1987 when the band would release it’s third album, Young and Free, slated by many for it’s French only release this seemed to be the final demise of the band and they soon broke up in 1988. The Turner sisters would continue on in various musical endeavors and even saw frontwoman Jody reform Rock Goddess with various female members during the 1990’s, most notably Isabella Fronzoni from the Swedish female speed metal band Ice Age. The reformation of Rock Goddess would finally be solidified in 2013 when the Turner sisters along with original bassist Tracey Lamb began playing gigs together again and announce the return of the band giving die hard fans, along with new fans a chance to see why Rock Goddess once ruled the heavy metal, hard rock scene. The band released an Ep in 2017 of new material and even with thirty years since their debut, the women of Rock Goddess are proving they are back with a vengeance.
