Tucker's final Edgardo! - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 06, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
In this abridged performance, little more than a year before Richard Tucker passed away, he sang what turned out to be his final Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. The year was 1973. Renata Scotto was Tucker's Lucia, and Matteo Manuguerra was the Enrico. I find it remarkable that Tucker, in his 60's, could still sing this opera so beautifully, He was in the middle of many performances of Canio in Pagliacci, as well as Aida, Forza, Ballo, Turandot, Gioconda, etc. He was proud that he could still sing Edgardo as well as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto.
