DESCRIPTION:
Most of the beautiful bark has been left on this unsplit Japanese Mountain Cherry branch flute (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea), contrasting nicely with the exposed wood grain. Measuring 12 1/4" in length and concert tuned to an f# minor pentatonic, modes 1 & 4, it plays the Gypsy scale as well as 3 upper octave notes. The whole flute is finely finished and inlaid with crushed red coral to match the natural bright red flecks in the bark. Elk lacing with red coral and brass beads holds the bird to the nest. The branch for this flute came directly from Japan, where Mountain Cherry Blossoms are known as Yamazakura. Also of interest, Kabazaiku, is the 200 year old art form in Japan of making woodworks out of cherry tree bark.
