Margate 2003 DEMOS "Driven" Celebrating 10 years of Lunacy - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 21, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Margate turns the ripe ole' age of 10 this year! Remembering our humble start from the Margate Street Condo we all lived and hung out in, hence the photo of the condo's pool area. We dug up the old songs from our first 2003 demo recordings Titled: Up Up, Down Down, Left Right, Left Right, BA, BA, Start. The demo was named after a code for the Nintendo game Contra. Can't even remember the name of the dingy Reseda Calif. studio where these were recorded but here is a favorite from that time when there were 5 members in Margate including a DJ and a Rhythm guitar player! Hey, It was 2003 so why not try something that we hadn't heard before and play some Punk rock with some scratching by a DJ?! The lyrics for this song were actually inspired by Billy Joel's
"We Didn't Start The Fire".
In 2006 the band was a power trio and released a new version of "Driven" on the bands own Dogfight Records for Margate's debut LP "Songs In The Key Of Awesome".
Thanks Leo, Brandon and DJ 160!

"Driven"
Lyrics by Alex Helbig
Music by Margate

Headin' for biological warfare,
What truth is left in the Presidential chair?
Bomb attacks in Israel, Innocent people dying for hell
Feeling like the end is near, An orphaned child's tear,
The decaying in my heart, pondering the start...

And all these things keep me driven
Keepin me driven, Keepin me driven, Keepin me driven.

It's genuine, This comradery my friend oh yeah,
We'll push on through but they'll kill what's good again,
Parental love and sacrifice, Teaching us the wrongs and rights oh yeah,
Feeling like the end is near, An orphaned child's tear,
The decaying in my heart, pondering the start...

And all these things keep me driven
Keepin me driven, Keepin me driven, Keepin me driven.
