Queensyze - No Sleep - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 31, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
The fifth instalment in the illustrious EVD House series sees some creative push and pull from its contributors.

The first two tracks present unique collaborations. "Pockets Deep" sees a Calgary connection as Adamallday, a transplant from Charlottetown, and Haakonsen, a force in Western Canada since 2004, hook up on a slick deep house track with old school Chicago flavour.

The second track sees East Van Digital boss and Caturday Disco prowler Joseph Martin working with Nelson's Joel West. This pair met in 2013, played at FozzyFest together, then found undeniable synergy in the studio as they created "Lazy Cat," a quirky number with tribal rally cry samples and a mysterious Twin Peaks-esque keyboard melody.

Block rocking beats from SkiiTour and Queensyze round out the EP. "No Sleep" shows that the reputation of Queensyze as one of Canada's leading bass authorities was well-earned, capable of anything she puts her mind to as her recent drum and bass single with Ded Sheppard proved. Pushing the 4/4 beat slightly faster, "No Sleep" has a pounding yet melodic bassline, classic hi-hat, dramatic piano, and get down/stay up vocal refrain that practically dares the sun to rise in that golden time between late night and early morning.

Whistler-based duo SkiiTour, itself a collaboration between an afro'd Kiwi and a proud Canadian ginger, close out the EP with "Dawn Patrol." This track locks in a funky groove with a plucky lead, atmospheric pads, and warped vocals that command everyone to get on the floor, and it makes that offer seem as enticing as fresh powder.
