Nowadays for bands, the indie/alt. rock influence is so strong, it can be difficult for one to stand out of the crowd. Not so much for Salt Lake City, Utah rockers Paxtin. Their sound is so fresh in the way that the instruments can be picked out individually; light in the sense that each musician can be heard, and not a bunch of three-chord noise and screaming that it fits in today's cookie-cutter mode, but not too light that you lose interest. Heck, not at all. They do fit in the mold, don't get me wrong, but what caught my ear was the tough and to the point tracks, but more melodious then most emo out there, and that to me is quite refreshing. Especially the hypnotic guitar solos that grab your ear and want to make you sit back in your car and enjoy the ride.
Frontman Patrick crandal's vocals are sultry and tough, which are definitely appealing to the teen and college-age demograph. He's got the emotional drive for today's sound without the whining of most emo singers out there.
Again, you can hear each instrument clearly, which makes for a successful project. Paxtin is extremely tight, the chemistry is absolutely there. the tunes are catchy and the lyrics are memorable. I think Paxtin is taking a step in the right direction. They are one of the most professional bands in the valley, in my opinion. Please listen for yourself.
