After playing in a several hardcore bands in Salt Lake City, Utah (including at one time, Metal Blade Records' Gaza) and growing tired of the music scene, Matthew Nanes retreated to his bedroom and wrote quiet confessionals, growing tired of playing heavy music. After slowly building a repertoire and playing some shows, the desire to turn the gain up crept back into the bloodstream of Nanes. Enter the Swans of Never self-titled EP.

Drawing on inspiration of the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World and Sunny Day Real Estate, Matthew Nanes re-crafted the older, quieter songs he had written into rock juggernauts, primed to floor any audience that would encounter them. The three song EP, which features drums from Kenny Bozich (formerly of The Almost) and recorded by Andy Patterson comprises of songs about living life and still keeping faith through every-day paranoia that are bound to hook any music listener of any genre through smart vocal harmonies and addictive buzzsaw guitar melodies.

“I’ve always loved catchy, melodic bands. It was fun playing hardcore music and it was fun playing quiet acoustic music, but I really just needed to get these songs out in a way that I felt they needed to be heard. It was driving me crazy that I wasn’t able to do that for the longest time. I couldn’t have gotten these songs to where they are without Kenny.”

Having played shows with diverse acts like Jonah Matranga, Sleeping Giant, Maria Taylor and Maritime, one thing for certain is not to expect Swans of Never to be stagnant. "Swans is something that I've done out of necessity to create, whether it be by myself or with a band, not something to manufacture to take part of any scene,” Nanes explains. “I'll always create something different to satisfy myself but it's my prayer that if only a few appreciate, understand and have their lives changed by what I do, then I've done my job".
