Dream Panther is a name I’ve been hearing from the mouths of LA musicians-in-the-know for a long time now. Every few months I visit his Soundcloud or Bandcamp page and end up leaving his music on repeat for hours each time. It’s dreamy electronic pop music with easily digestible lyrics that sets the mood for chillin’. He was a complete mystery to me though…I’d never seen him perform, rarely saw his name on show flyers, had actually never even seen a picture of him. Recently I started seeing his name popping up on big music sites due to his familial connection to IloveMakonnen (they’re cousins), and figured I’d try to crack the case of the mysterious gent. We talk about growing up in Mid-City Los Angeles, the culture shock of moving to a nearly all white school in Orange County, and buying a warehouse so he could have a place to perform.
