Mari Boine - Soria Moria Palássa (Oslo Opera House, 2009) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 24, 2009
DESCRIPTION:
Written by Mari Boine, Rawdna Carita Eira & Ole Jørn Myklebust. Live at the Oslo Opera House, October 2009. With Georg Buljo, guitar & vocals, Ole Jørn Myklebust, xaphoon & vocals, Svein Schultz, bass, Gunnar Augland, drums & percussion, and Herman Rundberg, accordion & vocals.

Here is my translation of what Mari Boine says in the intro to this song:
"Soria Moria Palássa is a place where they promise you happiness and prosperity and good days, and eternal youth, good neighbours, a better sex life - all this if you just buy what they have to sell. And you buy and buy and buy and buy. And you fill your home, fill your days with things. But still you wonder, where is the happiness they promised? The refrain here starts with the line "Naked and beautiful I came into this world", and that line is for my grandchild who was born at the beginning of this year. And the refrain continues with "Naked I leave when it's my turn to go, and nothing can I take with me, no matter how much I may have gathered." Soria Moria Palássa."

(Soria Moria is a dream castle, an illusion in the distance, in old Norwegian fairytales.)
