Represent (Boom Bap) - OJNYC tribute to Hip Hop - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 16, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
OJNYC never ceases to amaze us with his creative lyrics, eclectic style, and antagonizing punch lines, but with this single he simplifies things. Using the rhythmic melodies and nostalgic snares of late 80s-early 90s hip hop instrumentals, OJNYC displays a video compilation of some of the bests, latests, and greatests of real hip hop- most known from the Boom Bap Era of Hip Hop. He relates most to these "old school" sounds and contributes a repetitive, yet hypnotic and jovial hook that millions will recognize from their "early years." You can equate OJNYC's "Represent" to many familiar Hip Hop tracks and artists, but there are none who have displayed a deep passion for this genre using this perspective. Exceeding the realm, OJNYC credits many legends in his video. He says that "even though I included so many, I still didn't do justice to many others who reign in this genre of music."
He calls this his "lyrical salute-- yes another, but to Boom Bap, Real Hip Hop, and the ones who have paved the way."

"It's like, in the midst of all the publicity of random albums dropping unannounced, rappers displaying ignorance at radio stations, recorded heated arguments amongst colleagues, etcetera, people forget where, how, and with whom the title really belongs. They forget their roots. Show some dignity and respect! Hip Hop wasn't started on selfishness and crude behavior. There was actually a message!" -- OJNYC
