Soundproof Drum Practice Room - Part 2 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 17, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
I shot this little video for my own benefit really, as I wanted to test how 'Soundproof' my Drum Practice space was from a 'perceived' noise level (rather than a scientific experiment showing exact dB levels). I also wanted to know what other people actually hear outside, when I'm on the inside playing Drums. This is the second 'experiment' I've done of this nature, but the first one I carried out I didn't have any cymbals, so this experiment is me playing my entire kit - cymbals and all. The playing starts around the 20 sec mark, but I deliberately kept the beginning and end parts of the video, in order to gauge the sound of the drums relative to the ambient noise level. The video was shot around 9am on a weekday, just by propping up my iPhone outside our conservatory in the garden. The hum in the background is cars driving to work, and the blowing of the wind.

From what I can tell, the sound is coming from the low frequency spectrum - particularly the bass drum, and some snare drum. I can't detect any hi-hat or cymbal noise at all. The interior of my drum room is all hard surfaces (bare plasterboard). So I am hoping that once I have acoustically treated the internal space, this will help with the 'boomy' nature of the sound, and hopefully control the bass frequencies further. The noisiest part of the video seems to be around the 2min 50s mark, where I am closing the door!!

Good speakers or headphones recommended.
