Shirley Bassey - In The Still Of The Night (1961 Recording) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 19, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
1961 (Here is a beautiful Cole Porter song from 'early' Miss Shirley Bassey. This American Standard Classic, 'In the Still Of The Night' is one of the more well known 'ballad' style songs from Cole Porter, but of course he wrote so many songs that are well known even today. Young Shirley Bassey recorded and released this song on her 1961 LP titled, Simply, 'Shirley'. It's a fine example of 'early' Shirley's wonderful recordings, and I hope you everyone who takes a listen will LIKE this clip.

ABOUT the LP, Shirley:
Shirley was Shirley Bassey's fourth studio album, her second for Columbia, and was recorded with Geoff Love and his orchestra. It was her first album to enter the top ten of the UK Albums Chart, a feat she would not duplicate until Something in 1970. This album was issued in mono and stereo. The stereo version of this album was issued on CD in 1997.

LYRICS - In the Still Of The Night:
In the still of the night
As I gaze out of my window
At the moon in it's flight
My thoughts all stray, stray to you

In the still of the night
While the world lies in slumber
Oh the times without number
When I say to you

Do you love me
Just like I love you
Are you my life to be
That dream come true
Or will this dream of mine
Will it fade way out of sight

Just like that moon growing dim
Way out on the rim of the hill
In the still of the night
