Formed in 1969 from Jacksonville, North Carolina, Nantucket was originally known as the beach music band Stax of Gold and later Nantucket Sleighride (after the song by Mountain). Nantucket became a huge success in the southeast as a original band and eventually became a powerful and tenacious sensation, amassing thousands of fans in America, Europe and Japan.

Nantucket signed with Epic Records and released its self-titled album in 1978, featuring the AOR hit single "Heartbreaker". The album sold well over 200,000 copies and also made the Billboard charts. Their debut album can stand on its own merit as a Nantucket Greatest Hits package with classics such as, "Never Gonna Take Your Lies", "Real Romance", "She's No Good", "Quite Like You" and all time favorite "Born in a Honky Tonk".

With aggressive cross-country touring, Nantucket opened for headlining acts such as KISS, Styx, Boston, Mother's Finest, Journey and The Doobie Brothers. Nantucket followed with their 1979 album "Your Face Or Mine".

In 2010, Nantucket released an Original Archives that is the ultimate Southern Fried Boogie Woogie experience. This officially authorized Tommy Redd, Nantucket compilation features performances spanning their original career. The album has been delicately preserved from vintage analog reels, demos and out-takes, restored digitally to the fullest possible sound to compensate age and to preserve the history of the band.
