Tell Me Something Good - Bass Cover by Maarten Bakker - Video

DESCRIPTION:
While preparing for a gig later this week, I re-discovered what an amazing bass line this song has. It was released in 1974 recorded by Chaka Khan and Rufus. Chaka has a history of great bassists (Check out Anthony Jackson on What 'Cha Gonna Do For Me, or AJ and Marcus Miller on Naughty) and Dennis Belfield is killing it on this one.

The fact that this track was written by Stevie Wonder also explains a lot of the adventurous stuff happening: That off-beat riff that throws everyone off the first time. The modulation in the main riff by stretching out that bass line and melody. The jazzy chromatics in the ascending bass part. It's a schooling in how to be creative and catchy all at once!

As usual: I'm not copying the original bass part note-for-note, and I'm using an original backing track.
