Bakery - Blood Sucker - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 21, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
A pretty impressive, and very heavy version of the Deep Purple In Rock classic, which Perth heavy rock pioneers Bakery released as the A side of their debut single b/w their own original "Leave Scruffy Alone"..obviously local fans were impressed as both sides reached #8 on the Perth Charts while also reaching the lower reaches of the National chart in early 1971. A 2nd single, this time following a switch to Astor records, did similar business and it was followed by their National breakthrough with the August '71 album "Rock Mass For Love". Not really a true indication of the band's heavy/progressive rock leanings But it was timely being the "God-rock" era of Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell & a host of spiritually influenced songs. Following a line-up change & a move to the East a 2nd, more typical Bakery album was their final release in mid'72, The band played a well recieved performance at Sunbury '73 with much respected vocalist Barry Leef out front, and were featured on the live album of the event. They then continued through to 1975, with various line-up changes. Some of the members who passed through Bakery's ranks include Mal Logan (Chain, Healing Force, Renee Geyer Band, LRB), renowned bassist Jackie Orszaczky (Syrius, Marcia Hines MD), Steve Hogg (Ayers Rock), Rex Bullen (Jim Keays' Southern Cross & the Renee Geyer/Marc Hunter bands), and members of the NZ Avengers, Rebels & Fatty Lumpkin etc
