Lisa Mezzacappa's GLORIOUS RAVAGE promotional video - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 03, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Glorious Ravage is a panoramic free jazz song cycle by San Francisco Bay Area bassist and composer Lisa Mezzacappa, that features a large ensemble of stellar California improvisers performing new music in dialogue with films created by Bay Area moving image artists Janis Crystal Lipzin, Kathleen Quillian, Alfonso Alvarez and Konrad Steiner. The program takes as its inspiration the adventures and writings of lady explorers of the 19th century who trekked to the wildest parts of the earth, to escape, to discover, and to lose themselves.

Glorious Ravage premieres over the course of a week in fall 2015, in Northern and Southern California – first at REDCAT as part of the Angel City Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday September 26, with a preview performance at UC Irvine on Friday September 25, and then in San Francisco at Brava Theater Center on Thursday and Friday, October 1 and 2.

Glorious Ravage is generously supported by the MAP Fund, the Zellerbach Family Foundation and Headlands Center for the Arts’ Alumni New Works program. The San Francisco performances are co-produced by Brava! For Women in the Arts, and co-presented by SF Cinematheque. The Los Angeles performance is co-produced by Angel City Arts. The Other Minds Festival, Center for New Music, San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, Switchboard Music Festival and ROVA:arts are promotional partners.
