DESCRIPTION:
The formidable bassist, bandleader, composer, curator, and producer Lisa Mezzacappa presents ORGANELLE, an exploration of time from the nano to cosmic scale. For Resonance, this new composition for flexible improvising ensemble will be performed by percussion quartet. Its rhythms, musical relationships, melodies, and structures each connect to a theory of cell biology, astrophysics, paleontology, zoology, or neuroscience, evoking otherwise-imperceptible phenomena through sound.

In the opening piece, Mezzacappa improvised on bass to Wayne Grim’s live “sonification". Grim created sonic software using a year’s worth of tide, temperature, turbidity and other data collected from the bay by Exploratorium scientists.
