Pain of Salvation's On A Tuesday - Drum Playthrough with Leo Margarit - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 30, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
On a Tuesday was definitely the most difficult song to record on the new album... The intro and main section are based on 5 groups of 7 16th notes. There are several ways to think that, but the one that makes most sense to me is to write 7/4+7/16. If you think differently send me a post card! :D

These groups of 7 on the bass drum are hell to play tight... The difficulty comes every second time when the whole thing starts and is lead by the left foot, which is unnatural for most people used to lead with the right foot. Like me for instance... :)

The verses are in 7/4, there is this pattern going on all the time over 4 bars, everything on top of that is pretty much totally improvised.

The ending section on the album is actually played by Daniel. I had already spent about 10 hours recording the beginning to that point and we wanted to finish the song before going home. I did a few takes of the ending but Daniel wasn't satisfied so I asked him to show me what he wanted me to play, we switched places, I went to mixing desk and I asked Daniel Bergstrand to record him, he did one take not knowing we were recording, and when he came back I told him it was good and that we should keep it like this, so the song was a wrap! So there I'm just trying to "emulate" what Daniel played, not note for note, but I tried to keep the same feeling. I hope I'm succeeding!
