Pain of Salvation's Reasons - Drum Playthrough With Leo Margarit - Video

DESCRIPTION:
So, here comes Reasons!

Like most of the songs on the album, it's been recorded on a "variable" click following the tempo fluctuations of the demo recording played by Daniel (without click this time). So yes, the tempo is moving up and down here and there and that was probably the hardest thing to handle during the studio session because obviously the fluctuations of one drummer aren't necessarily the same for another drummer. I'm used to play on a straight click, a moving one isn't always convenient especially when you don't know when the changes are coming... That said, after playing the song for a whole tour I pretty much know how it goes now!

So no real surprises here either, I kinda copied what Daniel played on the demo (the same one that's available on the limited edition) except for a few things of my own, like small fills here and there, and the ending. The fill at 4m27 though is Daniel's "signature drum fill" as he calls it, so it needed to be the same! Everything else after that is just improvised. As far as I remember we did a few takes of this weird drum solo, chose one, and then made up an ending that pretty much follows up every hits I play. On this video I just did like when we play the song live and just improvised again. There are a few accents we keep playing together live so I played them there too. If anybody is interested by the exact ending of the album, there is a small video on my channel that comes with the charts as well. https://youtu.be/YHB4xpjMeAA

Speaking of charts, before the studio session I asked Daniel to write me down the rhythm for the chorus section and also the bridges (the counting sections) We spent an hour or so trying to write it down, I think we even figured it out in the end, but it was nothing I could really sight read or anything so I just decided to "learn" the thing... :) The bottom line is while it sounds almost like regular 16th and triplet to the non initiated, nothing falls on the grid... NOTHING! It's not even quintuplets or septuplets... So sorry guys but I won't do charts for this one...! :D

So the video is basically one take (the third and last one) with a few seconds here and there taken from take 1 and 2. No other fixing or nudging is done.

Hope you like it!
