DESCRIPTION:
Entertainment (originally spelled "eNTERTAINME.nt") was formed by Trey Ehart and Bari Donavan Watts in 2002 after the two met and played in an Atlanta goth band. Disenchanted with the current state of music and wanting to pursue different sonic ideas, the two formed their own project. The origin of the band name is unknown, but speculations range from a college friend of Ehart's graffiti moniker, to the 1979 release by English post-punk band Gang of Four, to even the mental image of "...hard to please concertgoers folding their arms to the idea of being entertained." After the departure of original bassist Andrew Gleason, Todd Caras (who would later go on to co-found the group Feeding Fingers) took over on bass, until Ehart and Watts discovered veteran bass player Kimberley Saint Thomas playing in a Bauhaus cover band at a Halloween party in Athens, GA. The band continued to tour and play with a series of second guitarists, the most recent being Chisolm Thompson, who performed with the band for a couple of years before departing to concentrate on his own band Misfortune500. Part of the new crop of US underground acts updating the gothic rock aesthetic, Entertainment have toured the US extensively and have performed with both legendary and up and coming artists such as Nina Hagen, Lene Lovich, TV on the Radio, Christian Death, Radio Berlin, Glass Candy, The Prids, Veil Veil Vanish, Blessure Grave, and Faith + the Muse.

After the release of their first single "Safe at One," the band were signed by now-defunct Luminal Records, who released their second single "Patroness." A split 12-inch EP release with Canadian "progressive deathrock" band A Spectre Is Haunting Europe would soon follow, this time issued by Atlanta label Stickfigure Records. Entertainment released their debut album Gender in 2008 through Stickfigure. It went on to receive extensive critical acclaim and was voted the 2008 deathrock album of the year by Deathrock.com. A remastered 180-gram vinyl version of Gender was then released the following year on New York label Duchess Archive.
