DESCRIPTION:
My Mother is a Hospice Nurse.
I grew up going along with her to patient's houses, hospital rooms & nursing homes; to sing songs for terminally ill patients in Oklahoma & Tennessee.
This song is about what I witnessed through the innocent eyes of a child.
...It has never been recorded in it's entirety until tonight.
I dedicate it to all of the unsung heroes in this world and the next; people like my Mother; that for hundreds of people, was the last hand they ever held; her eyes, the last eyes they ever looked into; her voice, the last voice they ever heard spoken; my Mother's ears, the last to hear their wishes, their descriptions of the other dimensions & beings all around us, the last to hear their prayers...
I dedicate it to those good Hospice folks, and all of the family's ever blessed by the work that Hospice does.
Thank You Mama.

I Love You.
Your Son,

"THE BRIDGEKEEPER"
Words & Music by:
Ladd Smith
There's a narrow bridge
By the river wide
With a light on the other side
And there's an angel who stands
By the bridge, so grand
With her arms open wide
And she has eyes that smile
Like a full grown child
And she'll walk along with you
Down your last mile
She'll hold your hand
To the promised land
Till you're safe on the other side
She's a chosen soul
And the darkness should know
She is guarded by God's might
She is strong and sure
And her love is pure
As she always walks in the light
Her hands may be cold
But her heart is so warm
Like a lantern for your soul
Until your last storm
Has finally past
And you're home at last
Just beyond, the other side
(bridge)
Oh the day will come
When her work is done
And she'll hear her own name across the valley
Then the wind will blow
With a song she knows
As the other Angels sing her grand finale
Oh
Oh
There's a narrow bridge
By the Jordan wide
With yet another on the other side
And there's a new angel who stands
By the bridge, so grand
With her arms open wide
And she has eyes that smile
As if she were my mother's child
And she'll walk by your side
Down your last mile
She'll hold your hand
To the promised land
Just beyond the other side
Oh, the Seeker will find
The Bridgekeeper in time
To take her home
To the other side
She'll be home
On the other side
