DESCRIPTION:
This is Newton Gwara's "Nhengure" version of Mukai Tiende, but I think that I have probably strayed a little now from his original.
Played on a dongonda mbira.
Right now, this is my favourite mbira to play, and also my favourite song.
Please forgive a couple of stutters near the start, I warm to it fairly quickly... this is just a 'sitting on the bed' recording, made for friends to show the sound of this particular instrument.
For those unfamiliar with the sound of the mbira, this is straight acoustic, no effects. The mbira is amplified in the traditional way ... by being placed in a deze, or hard shelled gourd resonator.

My total respect to the Shona people, whose ancient music this is. Your music is beyond compare.
