The Oral History of Female Drummers - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 19, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
On January 6, 2013, a group of female drummers and a beatboxer took over MoMA PS1 in Queens, NY. The normally serene art space became infused with an (au)oral history of female drumming. Six drummers and a beat programmer played throughout the museum to stunned museum goers. A beatboxer visited every drummer and had a 'conversation' with her, telling a story of the female drummers she had met before. The show ended with the beatboxer telling the audience of the history of female drummers she had encountered, presenting not just a past, but also informing a present and future for female drummers who are too often under or misrepresented by mainstream media.
