Based in Brooklyn, NYC. Jan Bell was born and raised in Yorkshire, England, and moved to America on her own at nineteen. You can hear traces of songs from the old country, rare pearls from the American folk tradition, and Jan's unique voice bringing both sides of the Atlantic together.

In 2009 she played Festival stages from Grey Fox to Glastonbury and took part in a tribute album to EC Ball, singing alongside Samantha Parton and Jolie Holland.

Jan plays NYC on a regular basis with the Maybelles, and also her Alt. country Brooklyn band.

2009 saw two UK Festival Tours, including Glastonbury Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week(Kent), Moor Fest (Yorkshire) and Bideford Folk Festival(Devon). The Sunday Times (London) feature 'Hoe down in the Home Counties' explores UK Americana artists such as Jan Bell and other British musicians and presenters. (See Blog)

After spending several years traveling the back roads, mountain towns, south western desert lands, and the streets of New Orleans Jan settled in a neighborhood by The Brooklyn Bridge, and put together her first country band in 2000. Since then she has made six albums, including three as leader and primary songwriter of old time country trio The Maybelles. Accompanied by violin, banjo, upright bass, percussion, piano, harmonica, and on one song - the saw!
