Recorded by John Howard in 2007 for his E.P. of the same name, The Bewlay Brothers was written and first recorded by David Bowie in 1971 for his album, Hunky Dory.

"I first heard this song in 1971 when an art college friend put Hunky Dory on the common room record player. I was immediately hooked on Bowie and especially the final track on the L..P., The Bewlay Brothers. I loved its sense of mystery and exotica. It wasn't until I returned to performing in 2004 after a 25 year lay-off, however, that I included the song in my gig sets. It always went down really well with audiences so in 2007 I recorded it as the title track for an E.P. I was putting together of loved songs by other writers. The track quickly became one of my most downloaded on iTunes."
