DESCRIPTION:
Lyn is one of the eight tracks on "Sugarghost - Balls & Balloons".

SUGARGHOST is a solo-project of the norwegian musician/composer/teacher Joakim Frøystein, born April 25, 1977 in Oslo, Norway. He sings, plays guitar and uses his laptop to make both familiar and strange sounds.

Joakim Frøystein releases the CD "Sugarghost -- Balls & Balloons" on Copenhagen label ILK, april 19th 2010. This is a follow up to his first solo-album "ILK111CD - Sugarghost -- Sweet Secrets" which was nominated for Danish Music Awards in the categories "New Name of the Year" and "Best Crossover Jazz Release", in 2006.
"Sugarghost -- Balls & Balloons" is another strong album with a dynamic and powerful mix of electronica, songwriting and instrumentals with Frøysteins highly personal signature. The eight tracks on his second solo-release, reveal a variety of acoustic and electric instruments blending together with samples of lost and found sounds. Acoustic lap-steel, bass clarinet and drums interact on instrumentals, warped ambient textures and create backgrounds for vocaltracks.
Frøystein continues his approach of "high-tech meets fearless intuition in the electronic sphere, where tones pulverize and sounds are remelted." His favourite sounds are found in objects that were not even made with the purpose of generating sound. Discarded spring feathers, old aluminum ash trays from his grandparents closed down gas station, bouncing balls on his guitar and fingers rubbing on balloons.
Additional musicians on "Balls & Balloons" are Anders Banke on bass clarinet + flute & Emil de Waal on drums + electronics, who have both been part of the extended live act since 2006.

Joakim Frøystein uses his guitar, voice and laptop/electronics in a wide range of musical settings, often stretching the limits of genres. Besides being a teacher, a performing artist and an "in demand" musician he has composed and performed music for poetry, theatre, performance-art, film, modern dance, excibitions and art-installations.
Frøystein is part of the recording-collective ILK (www.ilkmusic.com) and performs with his solo-project Sugarghost, the electronica-trio Jogujo Circuit, Sidiki Camara (Mali), Aida Nadeem (Iraq/DK) a.o and has toured extensively in USA and Europe.
He has been involved in a number of recordings and was nominated for 2 Danish Music Awards -- Jazz 2006, in the categories "New Name of the Year" and "Best Crossover-Jazz Release". Has collaborated with a.o. New Jungle Orchestra (DK), I Heart Lung (USA), Ursula Andkjær Olsen (DK) August Engkilde, Kohinoor Norberg (NO).
Frøystein has participated in and carried through projects supported by Danish and Norwegian Cultural funds. In 2009 he received the prestigious "State Artist Scholarship" in Norway.
