DESCRIPTION:
Midwest Radio present a live broadcast this Friday night May 27th from the terminal building of Ireland West Airport Knock to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the official opening of the airport. The programme – which airs at 9pm on Friday night – will also be streamed live on our website www.midwestradio.ie to allow people all over the world sample the atmosphere of what should be a very special night.
The concert will be presented by Midwest Radio presenters Tommy Marren and Gerry Glennon in front of a live audience of 450 people. Tickets for the event have been sold out for almost a month and audience members and those watching on the web are in for a treat. Those fortunate to have audience tickets must be seated by 8.45pm on Friday night ahead of the live broadcast at 9pm sharp.
Alongside a number of panels of people who all have an association with the airport in a number of guises there will be lots of musical entertainment including International Singing Star Tommy Fleming, the Rejoice Gospel Choir and a special performance of scenes from the cast of the highly-acclaimed drama/musical ‘On A Wing and a Prayer’.
Among the guests will be former EU Commissioner Padraig Flynn, journalist Terry Reilly, RTE reporter Jim Fahy, Joe Gilmore M.D. of Ireland West Airport, Knock and Fr. Richard Gibbons, PP of Knock Shrine. There will also be special message on the big screens from well-known national and local celebrities throughout the broadcast.
The legendary singer/songwriter Christy Moore will relay a special message and sing the ‘Airport Song’ on the big screen and local singer/songwriter Gerry Carney will perform a specially-written song to celebrate 30 years of Ireland West Airport, Knock.
The programme is being produced by Tommy Marren who has said that the night will be nostalgic and emotional as the story of how the airport – built on a ‘foggy boggy hill’ – has become the most significant piece of infrastructure in the west of Ireland.
“We’ve left no stone unturned in making sure we deal with the political wrangling that went on in delivering the airport and in particular the role played by the late Monsignor James Horan. I think we’ve got a great mix of guests and musical artists that will celebrate the landmark 30th anniversary of the airport and the fact that we are streaming the programme live on the world wide web – as well as on Midwest Radio – will give people from the West of Ireland living in all corners of the world an opportunity to join us in the celebrations of what many believe is the jewel in Connacht’s crown”.
Tune in to Midwest Radio this Friday night at 9 pm when all will be revealed.
