JazzMe Blues Brown) - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Lillyn Brown sings "Jazz-Me Blues" on Emerson 10384, recorded in May of 1921. RedHotJazz.com says about Brown (1895-1969): "On the heels of Mamie Smith's amazing success with her song 'Crazy Blues' on Okeh, other record companies searched for Blues singers. About five months later the Emerson company recorded their first Blues record with Lillyn Brown in May of 1921 . Lillyn Brown was a veteran of minstrel shows, vaudeville and musical theatre. She was half Erie Iroquois Indian and was sometimes billed as the "Indian Princess", other times 'The Youngest Interlocutor in the World,' because she had a song and dance act where she was a male impersonator. The Emerson records were released under Brown's name. On Medallion these records were released as Maude Jones and her Jazbo Serenaders, on Oriole they were called Fannie Baker and her Jazz, and on Regal they were released as Mildred Fernandez and her Syncopated Syncopators."
