Task Force 54 provided naval artillery, comprised of Battleships USS Arkansas, USS New York, USS Texas, USS Nevada, USS Idaho and USS Tennessee. Cruisers USS Pensacola, USS Salt Lake City, USS Chester, USS Tuscaloosa and USS Vicksburg.
Joined shortly after by Battleships USS North Carolina, USS Missouri, USS Washington and USS West Virginia plus the Cruisers USS Indianapolis, USS Santa Fe and USS Biloxi and many Destroyers.
