Grendel's Dance
The whole track was played at TDFZ and on HFM over the air by Terry Hawke during his Chill Sessions. I just placed a snip of it, 2 minutes or the over 5 minute track. Called Grendel's Dance. It is the first track of the next set of double CD coming out. A video will follow.

This one here is a 2 minute snip of the 5:22 or so full track. It was played in full at TDFZ and HFM over the air. TDFZ still has it listed in it's archives for podcast download if you want to hear the whole thing.

Grendel's Dance is the first track of the double Album, Beowulf and Gilgamesh.

Brief history
This project for the double CD album started about 3 years ago now. Themed on Beowulf and Gilgamesh
They both have some things in common and many not. Foremost, they are originals for each culture in portraying man and man's service to man.
I could go into many pages the why. I think everyone should just read them and come to their own conclusions. If the world did not have either one of these works, the world would be very much different than it is today. Each work laid down a foundation that we live on today.

Tech
Dave Smith Instruments (DSI) Poly Evolver Keyboard (PEK), DSI Prophet '08 Special Edition (P'08 SE), and a Yamaha S-80 are the synths used. Guitars, Ibanez (rare one(s) too, it will be in the video, both of them) I believe. Many reverbs used, some special softsynth effects, compressors and such. Sonar 4 was the DAW software used, Cakewalk Pyro 2003 used to clean up and make the MP3. Other versions and derivative of this track will use Moog Modular Virtual (Arturia MMV), Triton Extreme, Alesis ION, Roland JP8000, Redsound DarkStar as well as several other software synths like FM7 and Reaktor but not exclusive. Planned is a few different basses and percussion. This track stands as it is however. No further instrument planned or changes, other than a final mix down and mastering.

The track was inspired by a preset patch on the PEK. A few knob twists to make it more pleasing to my ear, a few changes in the bpm and modulation in some of the envelops and tweaks in a few of the LFOs started it off. Adding S-80 for the Rhodes and Choir parts, the base was laid out. There does exists a vocal version, which was used for a submission to a local film but the film never made it public. The vocal version lacks guitars and additional bass work. Planned to be revised at a later date when needed. This version is instrumental only. S-80 work and vocals are done by Lorraine Kay. PEK and P'08 SE work done by Dale Kay. Guitar work done by Doug Barrett. Recording, mixing, effects (some made by Dale Kay) mix down and mastering, done by Dale Kay.

Last Words
The track continues to grow in the studio. Each person who hears it, seems to think of a part they can do to add to it. There is also a Fret Less Bass version but that was scratched due to over dose of bass. A less obtrusive bass will appear in further derivatives. A video is planned on the making of this track.

The track is planned to lead off the album title Beowulf. Intended to give Grendel some music to dance too while he contemplates his plan for destruction and killing of the men in the great hall. A word about this version of Beowulf : This Beowulf is not 100% taken from the original as we all have read. I have taken liberty to expand upon it, move it off the Earth to a far away place in a not so far away time. A time when Man is not 100% organic but has some mechanical parts, some may say Cyborg or using a more popular term, Borg'ish. Grendel is still just as mean and evil, just not 100% organic. So sit back, slap on some headphones if you want, listen to Grendel's Dance. Such a happy character he is when he is thinking mayhem. Is it Dark? Yes.
