Making Harris Tweed
(Music by David Silver. Words by Linda Birmingham)

1: I'm dreaming of my lover and I hope he'll come to me
I haven't met him yet and I'm making Harris tweed
He's tall and handsome, strong and sure, he'll make us rich, we'll not be poor
Come on lover find me here, I'm making Harris tweed

Chorus:
Up and down and up and down and up and down the treadle goes
In and out the shuttle goes making Harris tweed (x 2)

2: I meet him by the river and no one knows that we are there,
We sit and talk and sing and laugh, he gently strokes my hair.
Tomorrow I will go to him, down by the river once again,
I'll show him what you have to do when making Harris tweed

Chorus

3: All the girls will follow him but he will just belong to me,
He's kind and gentle, lots of fun, he sails upon the sea
One day I will marry him, my sisters all will dance and sing,
These are such sweet dreams I have while making Harris tweed.

Chorus

4: I hear you Nancy singing true and I would love to walk with you
I've seen your skill with shuttles when you're making Harris tweed
The treadles need some oil though, to make your weaving flow and grow,
The loom must work in steady time when making Harris tweed

Chorus

5: I hope you dream of me today, I'm just outside a raking hay,
Through the window I can see you making Harris tweed.
Would you like to try my loom? Its very underused you know,
I feel that with your gentle touch, its function could improve.

Chorus

6: Now I think it's time to end, we'll weave our dreams some time again,
I hope that you enjoyed the fun of making Harris tweed,
I hope that you enjoyed the fun of making Harris tweed.
