Jazz Middelheim 2014 is the first year since 1981 without any concert by Toots Thielemans. This is a perplexing idea, but one we’ll have to get used to. The festival is going to miss its godfather, even though we’re allowing him to retire – thankful for the wonderful moments we had – with the best of wishes.
