Lil' John Roberts - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 09, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
One of the most recent artists to join the Meinl Cymbals Family, Lil' John Roberts, came through Nashville two days ago on a tour stop with the legendary and truly amazing Stevie Wonder.

Stevie is one of a number of iconic artists who are performing landmark albums in their entirety live. In Stevie's case, "Songs in the Key of Life" gets the live treatment on this tour.

A double album released in 1976, "Songs in the Key of Life" is considered by many to be Wonder’s finest work and was cited as a major influence by superstars like Elton John, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston. The album included two No. 1 hits, "Sir Duke" and "I Wish," plus the popular track "Isn’t She Lovely" and the enduring song "Pastime Paradise," which Coolio reworked into "Gangsta’s Paradise."

Despite being part of such a big production, Lil' John had time prior to soundcheck to visit the Meinl USA offices and check out some cymbals.

Most of you may know of Lil' John Roberts. But for those you that do not, his resume is astounding...Herbie Hancock, George Duke, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Prince, Sheila E, Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Al Green, BB King, Snarky Puppy, Paula Abdul, Ne-Yo, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Patti Labelle, India.Arie, Queen Latifah, Joss Stone, Jill Scott, and Snoop Dog…just to name a few...

Here's a brief montage of him playing around on the kit. His cymbals on this kit from left to right if sitting behind the kit (not his real cymbal set up), are as follows:

- Classics Custom Dark 14" Hihats
- Byzance 20" Tradition Light Ride
- Byzance 22" Dark Raw Bell Ride
- Byzance 18" Extra Dry Thin Crash
- Byzance 22" Tradition Flat Ride
