Forever Longing Chinese Music guqin improvised by Wang Fei王菲古琴即兴吟唱长相思 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 30, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Improvisational guqin music was popular before and during the Tang Dynasty, but the tradition was lost about 1000 years ago. Ms. Wang Fei is one of the few people to improvise on the guqin. She has developed her own style of improvisation that combines guqin improvisation with reciting poems, both Chinese and English. For recitals in English, she has adapted techniques from Chinese opera and the four tones of Mandarin, breaking the flow of the words into a rhythm and pace appropriate to guqin music.
长相思 Forever Longing
Poem by馮延巳 Feng Yansi (Five Dynasties Period, 903-960)
红满枝,绿满枝, 宿雨厌厌睡起迟。 闲庭花影移。忆归期,数归期,梦见虽多相见稀。相逢知几时?
Stems full of red, stems full of green; The night-long rain caused me to wake up late. Plant shadows in the courtyard had shifted. Remembering the date of your return; counting the days until then. We often meet in dreams, seldom in reality. When will we see each other?
