Aodán Coyne is the guitarist and vocalist for the band Socks in the Frying Pan. This video was filmed at the launch of his debut solo album 'If we only knew' at this years Ennis Trad Festival 21. Having been brought up in the musically rich Coyne family where his grandfather Eamon played fiddle with the famous Liverpool Ceili Band and his father Mick being a renowned uilleann piper, Aodán's music now complements that tradition. At fifteen Aodán began to take a serious interest in music and began playing guitar. Firstly beginning with rock and contemporary music and stemming into various acoustic guitar styles. It was while in the Inis óg grúpa ceoil that he began to focus more on traditional Irish music and alternate guitar tunings in particular ‘DADGAD’. Aodán studied at Dundalk Institute of Technology where he qualified with a B.A. in Applied Music in 2008. Here he performed with the seven piece band, Saor. They had the privilege of playing at such events as the former President McAleese’s Inauguration as well as at Áras an Uachraráin in January 2006. He has also performaned for the president of Malta and the North & South ministerial council in 2007. Other venues include Emmanuel College Cambridge and the Music Academy of Paris.
He was a founding member and president of the Dundalk Music society from 2006-2008. He has been teaching guitar and has worked with The Summer Music on the Shannon school which runs in conjunction with The Clare Music Makers Academy at the University of Limerick. Aodán also studied Arts Administration in Cork.He is studying Biochemistry at The University of Limerick.
The album features guest artists including Sean McCarthy on low whistle & uilleann pipes, Niall Preston on badhran and John Bridge on bass. The album can be bought on iTunes, CDbaby etc.
