Budapest is a city with a passionate mystical tradition, reflected variously in its artistic and architectural heritage. What I mean by ‘mystical’ is the felt and lived sense of worlds beyond the physical and apparent ones… realms where angels and archangels protect and guard the consciousness soul of the Hungarian people; where higher immortal beings inform the city’s noble mortal innocents as they go about their daily business.

The language lives and breathes with divine vibration, the folk tales speak of ancient protective spirits, and the music is animated by spiritual heroism and virtue. In Hero’s Square (Hõsök tere)
the Archangel Gabriel presides over the 7 Chieftans of the Magyars, and it is impossible not to feel a tremendous spiritual power and electric higher presence in this space.

One can build a bridge to heaven, as it were, through feeling awareness and expanded consciousness. Beyond the apparent lies the real… and beyond the physical lies the spiritual. We are all spiritual beings first and foremost and only physical beings as a consequence of incarnation; our spirit incarnates into matter. That’s the way round it actually is. When this is remembered in the soul, gratitude, grace, humility and love are an organic inevitability, and heroic virtue becomes the normal purified human condition.

Everywhere in Budapest there are reminders and inspirations of our divine heritage. This film is a mini-pilgrimage to the invisible graces that lay at the heart of the city and the nation… it is a tiny offering to the Gods; a red rose delivered in love. The statues, far from being false icons, are actually living portals to heaven’s bridge.

Budapest is my spiritual home, and I feel a tremendous sense of renewal there. I am sometimes overwhelmed by the invisible beauty that is mercifully veiled by the magnificence of the art and architecture in this fabulous city.

I filmed with my fellow pilgrim Gloria one freezing December weekend, and we were tipped off about secret lesser known statues with mystical powers by two of our Hungarian spiritual detective friends from a Mystery School there, Gabi & Nandi… statues at the Keleti railway station and the Kerepesi cemetery, for instance! When it had all been filmed and scripted, we sent it for editing and compiling to our Holy Grail knight, Maggie, who guards Scotland and the north!
