Una zanfoña o zanfona​ es un instrumento musical perteneciente a la familia de los cordófonos frotados, muy extendido en la música popular europea con numerosas variantes en distintas regiones y épocas. La zanfona se asemeja a un violín mecánico en el que varias cuerdas vibran por la fricción de una rueda enresinada (situada en la caja de resonancia del instrumento) que gira gracias a un manillar. The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Melodies are played on a keyboard that presses tangents—small wedges, typically made of wood—against one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Die Drehleier (auch: Radleier) ist ein Streichinstrument, bei dem die Saiten von einem eingebauten Rad angestrichen werden, das mittels einer Kurbel gedreht wird.
