LYRICS:
Woe To the Lovers
where has she gone my lover so dear? is it only a dream or did she disappear?
was it footsteps i heard? was she sneaking away? i mustn't be dreaming, she's gone when i wake.
where can she be? is she counting the stars? is there someone she's meeting? did he steal her heart?
is she being untrue? if her lips tell lies i'll see it in her eyes.

so i'll hide in the night -- in the shadows of black. i'll catch her with him. i'll follow her path.
through the thickets and brush over meadowview trail i hear rustling ahead. she must surely be near.
what's that i spy? look, it's bodies entwined. just as i expected, i knew what i'd find:
her shape so familiar and that of a man - his body in her hands.

torn by betrayal and shaken with rage i make my approach through the dawn's early haze.
i now hear the crying - my lover in tears and i soon understand as i'm stricken with fear.
the body she holds -- lifeless and cold - blood from his chest flowing onto the soil -
with grief on her face i turn to my wife who's holding tight the knife.

my senses grow numb as i reach for the man - a crumpled up note in the palm of his hand.
"to the husband i've wronged, i admit what i've done. i shall never return to the woman you love."
so that's why you killed him -- for envy and fear. 'thought you'd have us both but you can't have that, dear.
with a kiss on your lips and my back to the bark i stab my pounding heart.
